AFIT mandate is to produce knowledgeable and innovative personnel, worthy in character and learning, through effective teaching and research for technological advancement. Currently, AFIT comprises of five (5) faculties, each consisting of various departments. AFIT also includes a School of Postgraduate Studies (SPS). All the basic course curricula are structured to meet the minimum requirements for undergraduate and postgraduate trainings in the aerospace sector. The graduates form AFIT includes foreign students from the Republic of Benin, Zimbabwe, Ghana, Niger, and Sierra Leone. The Physics department in AFIT teaches Space Science, Physics and related courses including Astronomy and Astrophysics while Faculty of Air Engineering train students in Aerospace Engineering. AFIT is part of the universities 100% funded by the FGN and consistently receive research grants from government bodies like NCC, CBN, Tetfund etc. these grants worth over $500k.
AFIT is located in Kaduna, the northern part of the country and surrounded by over sixty (60) Universities both governments (Federal and State) owned, privates owned and over forty (40) other higher institutions (Polytechnics and Colleges of Education) with over 500,000 students in these HEIs. Despite not having participated in any CBHE project before, AFIT has the potential, for its geographical position and strong government mandate, to become a regional hub in PSST for the Kaduna region. AFIT has graduates from other African Countries as listed above hence, would serve as contact points/coordination centre to HEIs in some of the countries for the project.
Role in the project
WP2: AFIT will help setting up the centre and participate in the activities as the potential regional hub for the Kaduna region.
WP3: AFIT staff will contribute to the contents creation and help achieving the sustainability of the CESST.
WP4: AFIT staff will participate in the works of the WP focusing on reducing education inequalities and gender inequalities by promoting and accomplishing education growth and inclusiveness (education and gender inclusiveness).
WP 6: AFIT has a broad programme in aerospace and will provide trainees to attend the knowledge transfer activities entailed by WP6.
