Prof. Veruscha Fester

A qualified Chemical Engineer, (D.Tech. Chem. Eng.). Currently in the position as Assistant Dean: Research, Technology, Innovation & Partnership in the Faculty of Engineering & the Built Environment. Also, an associate professor in the Flow Process & Rheology Centre, Cape Peninsula University of Technology, who has gained over fifteen years research experience, is including specialisation in non-Newtonian fluid flow, especially the effect of rheology of highly concentrated suspensions in the mining industry on frictional losses in pipes and fittings. In 2007, I included nanotechnology to my research. I am currently developing metal oxide nanoparticles for use in textile wastewater treatment and heat transfer fluids. I successfully supervised 19 master degree students and 2 doctoral students. Currently supervising and co-supervising 4 Doctoral students and 5 Master’s students. I also hold one South African patent for a Fluid Treatment Process. Previously a Process Engineer with over four years’ experience with a chemical / processing company in various aspects of process engineering and production management; focussing on highly specialised, dynamic and complex chemical processes which yielded niche products used in the textile industry. During this period a consistent track record has been achieved whist obtaining research / process targets and objectives, exceeding quality standards, utilising creative and technical abilities in problem-solving, trouble-shooting, training, supervision and development of operating staff, decision making and administration control. I have been a founding member of the Southern African Society of Rheology in 2006 and served on the executive committee in various portfolios. I served as president of SASOR from 2017 to 2018 and is currently the International Liaison Officer. I also serve as a member on the executive committee of the South African Nanotechnology Initiative (SANi).
