Dr I.A. Obi, a Nigerian astronomer, is currently a Chief Scientific Officer at the Centre for Basic Space science & Astronomy (CBSS) where he heads the Astronomy Division. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Physics and Astronomy at the University of Nigeria Nsukka in 2008 and his Master’s degree from the same university in 2012, majoring in Radio Astronomy. Thereafter he proceeded to the prestigious SISSA (International School for Advanced Studies) Trieste, Italy in 2013 where he carried out his doctoral research in the area of galaxy formation and evolution under the supervision of Prof Alessandro Bressan leading to the award of a PhD degree in 2017. His current research focuses on the reconstruction of the cosmic star formation history of galaxies using stellar population synthesis models. In his spare time, he designs low-cost but effective telescopes used in small scale radio astronomy experimentation, education and outreach. He is a member of many professional bodies such as Astronomical Society of Nigeria, Nigeria Institute of Physics, Nigeria Union of Radio Science, African Astronomical Society and International Astronomical Union.
