Dr Bonaventure I. Okere is currently the Executive Director, NASRDA - Centre for Basic Space Science, (CBSS) Nsukka Nigeria and the Regional Coordinator of the West African Regional Office of Astronomy for Development (WA-ROAD), an office established by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) and its Office of Astronomy for Development (OAD), Cape Town South Africa in 2015. He is also, co-founder and co-Director of the West African International Summer School for Young Astronomers (WAISSYA), now known as Pan African School for Emerging Astronomers (PASEA) due to its acceptance across Africa.
His PhD work is on the study evolved stars with special interest in post-AGB Stars. His main concentration is on the development of Astronomy and Astronomy Instrumentation. He initiated, participated and supervised the design, construction and setting up 3m, and 6m Radio Telescopes for Astronomy research at CBSS Nsukka, using local materials. He has passion for Astronomy education and outreach. His group won the IYA 2009 global Prize of a Comet Hunter’s optical Telescope for the best organized IYA2009 activity. Currently he is the Vice President, Astronomical Society of Nigeria (ASN) and he lectures at the department of Physics and Astronomy, University of Nigeria Nsukka on pro bono. He played a major role in the formation of African Astronomical Society (AfAS). He has over 40 publications in reputable Journals to his credit.
